University of Chichester named 21st-best in UK

  • Chichester ranked in top-25 by Guardian league tables
  • Ratings also based on students’ high satisfaction with teaching
  • Continues Chichester’s successes across national league tables – including 25th-place in recent National Student Survey

THE University of Chichester has continued to climb the national league tables after being named among the top 25 in the UK.

Rankings produced by the Guardian University Guide 2022 rated the institution at 21st out of 121. The rankings continue the University’s successful streak in the national league tables, having also been named as the 25th-best in this summer’s National Student Survey (NSS).

Vice-Chancellor Professor Jane Longmore said: “Our place in the top 20 per cent in the table is a remarkable achievement driven by excellent results in the NSS in the past two years. This is made even more remarkable given the turbulence of the pandemic.

“These results are testimony to the outstanding efforts made by every staff member to maintaining our commitment to our students and the transformational experience for which we are best known. It is also a huge boost for our University and our community – Chichester is now in a different league and rightly sits among the leaders of the UK higher education landscape.”

The University performed strongly across the Guardian league tables, finishing in seventh place for students’ satisfaction with teaching, while its Education department was named as the fifth-best in the country.

Dr Mark Mason, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Experience), said: “This league table result affirms the dedication of our wonderful staff to delivering a high-quality education for our students.

“We are a community that is passionately committed to providing a positive, life-changing, and enriching experience for all those who study with us. Our students have a real sense of belonging that is complemented by personalised support, creating an excellent learning environment.”

The Guardian league position caps a triumphant year for the University, which has seen applications rise by 25 per cent on last year. Its 25th-place ranking in the National Student Survey, announced in July, was based on high satisfaction rates among its students, thanks in part to its support during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Students’ Union President Gemma Hopwood said: “These results are a powerful representation of a truly special university. Being part of the journey that we are embarking on is extremely special, and I’m personally over the moon.”

The SU’s Vice-President Jamel McFarlane added: “After experiencing how good the university is first-hand, I am delighted to see our collective hard efforts reflected in our league table position. Chichester is a special university – we will continue to build on our successes from here.”
