Moitree Banerjee

About

Moitree Banerjee provides strategic leadership for the School of Law, Business and Psychology, shaping its academic vision and operational priorities within the University of Chichester’s institutional framework. As the inaugural Head of School, she has successfully unified distinct disciplines under a shared identity, driving innovation in curriculum design, research, and community engagement.

Her work is focused on aligning the School’s objectives with institutional strategy, ensuring financial sustainability, and contributing to governance at Senior Management level. She leads the development of inclusive, future-facing curricula that respond to global challenges and enhance graduate employability, while advancing cross-disciplinary research and knowledge exchange. Through partnerships with regional stakeholders, including West Sussex County Council, Moitree champions projects that deliver tangible societal impact and strengthen the University’s civic mission.

Moitree plays an instrumental role in advancing the University’s position within UK government frameworks for evaluating and benchmarking higher education, including the Research Excellence Framework (REF), Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF), and Knowledge Exchange Framework (KEF). Through her strategic leadership, the School strengthens its contribution to institutional priorities, driving improvements in academic quality, student experience, and graduate success. These achievements underpin the University’s reputation for excellence and its continued progression in national performance indicators and league tables.

Research

Moitree’s research agenda spans transformative areas in mental health innovation, psychosocial wellbeing, and digital health futures. Her work interrogates systemic barriers to care and advances evidence-based strategies to reduce mental health inequalities. She has published extensively in high-impact journals on social prescribing, stigma hierarchies, and third-wave psychological interventions, including mindfulness-based approaches. These contributions have shaped both theoretical frameworks and applied practice across healthcare and educational contexts.

As Principal Investigator, Moitree leads multi-setting projects on mental health risk and needs assessment, designing tailored interventions for vulnerable populations and high-pressure professional environments such as NHS and end-of-life care. Her scholarship extends to emerging domains, including the integration of mindfulness in virtual and metaverse platforms, positioning her at the forefront of digital mental health innovation. Internationally recognised, she is a frequent speaker at global conferences and serves as an editorial reviewer for Mindfulness, reinforcing her influence in shaping the future of mental health research and practice.
