James Baker

Associate Lecturer for Music and Musical Theatre

James is a theatre maker, academic and artist. He is also co-artistic director and board member of Bootworks Theatre and acts in an advisory capacity to the board of governors at Itchen College.

His work with Bootworks has toured to 11 countries worldwide and has received frequent Arts Council England and British Council support. Notable works include children's show The Incredible Book Eating Boy (an adaptation of Oliver Jeffers' picture book) and 30 Days To Space (a durational performance in which James climbed to the height of space on an aluminium ladder in order to become an astronaut).

James is a Senior Lecturer in the Theatre Department at the University of Chichester. Previously he has taught on the undergraduate programme at The University of Portsmouth and guest lectured on the M.A in Advanced Theatre Practice at the Central School of Speech & Drama. He has been published in numerous publications and has won a Total Theatre Award for Innovation in 2010. His specialisms include: Travel in relation to performance, contemporary theatre practice, live art and site-specific theatre.
