Life at the Tech Park: A Student’s Perspective
Did you know that the University of Chichester’s Bognor Regis Campus is home to a cutting-edge £35m Tech Park?
This state-of-the-art facility brings together science, technology and engineering to nurture students with a powerful blend of creativity, technical expertise and entrepreneurial skills.
In this blog, alumnus Will shares his journey studying in this flagship space – from sparking his imagination to providing the perfect environment to focus and thrive.
My Experience at the University of Chichester’s Bognor Regis Campus
The University of Chichester’s Bognor campus was my base during my time studying at Chichester.
Taking two trains, three days a week, may seem like a drag; however, for me, this offered extra time to plan essays, recap lectures, and prepare for my next class.
Throughout my two years at Chichester, the trains were very reliable, from early morning starts to late afternoon sessions, allowing me to feel confident knowing that I would arrive on time for my lectures or library group presentation prep sessions.
Furthermore, Bognor Campus is just a 15-minute walk from the Bognor Regis train station. You can choose to either walk by the main road, or divert through cosy Hotham Park, frequented by many a dog walker.
The campus is home to the amazing Tech Park, which acted as the primary hub for my studies, with most of my lectures taking place there.
Fully creative and industry-focused part, it attracts students from all over the country to study a range of subjects, from Media and Screenwriting to Esports.
With a great coffee shop at its entrance, the Tech Park offers a state-of-the-art, creative industry-led building designed for students eager to get their hands on a creative project, from playing competitive video games to analysing movies.
Across from the Tech Park is the Learning Resource Centre (LRC), home to reception, the library and a fantastic lecture theatre, which offered some of the most immersive and engaging lectures I had over my two years at Bognor.
From studying a range of film modules to dissecting popular conventions in the media, the theatre houses some of my favourite and most enjoyable modules on the course.
While most of my modules had smaller class sizes, this did offer more one-to-one time with my lecturers, which worked well for me, as I enjoyed this type of learning.
The library offers a great selection of computers and desks, ideal for both individual work and group projects. There is also a dedicated quiet area, where I spent the majority of my time in the library, as it was easier to focus and allowed me to work more effectively.
University life isn’t just about lectures and essays. Chichester offers over 50 student-led groups, covering a wide range of interests, from sports to environmental activism.
There’s something for everyone, and it’s a great way to meet people and explore new interests outside of the classroom.
