Dr. Ian Lipscomb
Head of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics
About
BEng (Hons), PhD, DTLLS, QTLS, FIMA, FHEA, FRSS
Experience
Over the past 10 years Ian has held mathematics, Physics and Engineering teaching posts in Higher, Further and Private educational institutions, and has worked as a Head of Department in 2 Colleges. He has been an external mathematics examiner A level for Edexcel the last 5 years.
Previously Ian had nearly 15 years of university research experience starting with his PhD at the University of Cardiff into the mathematical modelling of knee joint post-acute ligamentous injury and continuing as a post-doctoral research fellow in the University of Southampton on range of topics from the spread of the human form of mad cow disease to the electrical breakdown of piezoelectric ceramics.
Interests
Apart from his PhD Ian holds a First class honours degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Cardiff University. Is a qualified teacher (DTLLS) with QTLS status and is a full member of the institute of mathematics and its applications.
Ian’s research interests include the effective use of flip learning methodologies within the classroom. He has published a number of papers and a book on the use of shape memory metals in medicine.
