Emeritus Professor of Social Care and Workforce Development and Associate Lecturer

Janet McCray

About

I am based in the Department of Childhood, Social Work and Social Care and I am responsible for ensuring the delivery of the Departmental Research strategy, having gained support from internal and external stakeholders.

A key part of my leadership in the University of Chichester has been the development and sustainment of team-based research and consultancy activity.

This has resulted in the winning of a number of key contracts with public sector clients (NHS and Local Authority) to deliver bespoke accredited leadership development, but also to support other research activity, research supervision and bidding.

My own published research such as resilience in practice (McCray, 2012,2014, 2016) and  collaborative workforce development studies,  ( 2017a 2017b ),  and the development of a conceptual framework for inter-professional leadership ( McCray, 2002 ) and its further rolling out and review ( McCray, 2004, 2006, 2009, 2012 ) provide a useful toolkit for practitioner evaluation and reflection on their own position as a leader of others and across professional disciplines

I lead by example for both students and staff as a researcher, and through working to ensure that my activity encompasses horizon scanning for new educational needs and opportunities in the health and social care workforce and has maximum value in three areas, income generation, teaching quality and research and scholarship outputs.

As Director of Studies and experienced supervisor, I am currently the Research degree Coordinator for Social Policy and Director of Studies and or first supervisor for 8 full and part time PhD students plus three pre-PhD proposals. All Doctoral Studies and proposals offer cutting edge links with the health and social care sector
