
Provost
Dr Mark Mason is Provost at the University of Chichester. Reporting to the Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive Officer, the Provost is the most senior academic officer of the University and a core member of the Senior Leadership Team (deputising for the Vice-Chancellor as required).
The Provost is responsible for providing strategic leadership across all academic areas and academic matters, including long-term planning, the University’s Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) submission, all aspects of research – including the Research Excellence Framework (REF) submission – and innovation activity, as well as the development of partnerships.
The role of Provost aligns the University’s academic, research, and operational activities with its strategic plan, ensuring excellence in teaching, research, and the overall student experience.
Mark has extensive management experience in higher education, including learning, teaching and student engagement (including National Student Survey outcomes), quality assurance and standards, collaborative partnerships and the development of the academic portfolio.
In addition to his responsibilities as Provost, Mark teaches and researches in his specialist areas of academic interest: the philosophy of history/historical theory, the history of contemporary continental philosophy (including the work of Jacques Derrida) and critical pedagogy.
