Research
Robert co-founded Bootworks Theatre Company in 1999 and currently co-directs with Andy Roberts and James-Peachey Baker. Bootworks, known for its diverse artistic disciplines including devised performances, live art, and outdoor arts, delivers up to four different projects annually, engaging varied audiences and sectors. They also offer workshops and internships for young artists, produce podcasts and books, and make work collaborating with children and young people.
The company has received two award nominations and one win for Innovation and Experimentation. They are project funded by the Arts Council England and supported internationally by the British Council. Bootworks are resident artists in our on-campus ShowRoom Theatre.
Robert’s independent research interests span physical theatre, DIY theatre ethics, practice as research (PaR), devised theatre, live art, political theatre, and theatre arts education. His publications include two theatre guidebooks with contributions from over 50 arts practitioners, articles in Total Theatre Magazine on contemporary performances and innovative theatre practices, and contributions to the Live Art Development Agency, exploring DIY performance, and (as an ambassador) live art’s interaction with Higher Education. His first book was nominated for the Theatre Research prize in 2013.
