Dr Adam Locks

Programme Coordinator: Media & Communications

About

Dr Adam Locks has been teaching at the university since 2002. His teaching particularly focuses on cinema and television in modules such as Horror, Shocking Texts, American TV Drama, War Films, and Hollywood Film Making. He has co-organised two conferences for the department. The first was a celebration of The Avengers television show in 2011 which was the largest event ever organised by the university and included over forty cast and crew from the series. The second was a retrospective in 2014 exploring the legacy of the Radiophonic Workshop and included a full concert on campus performed by the RFW for staff, students and members of the public.

Adam regularly fronts the ‘Department of Creative & Digital Technologies Presents’ series where prominent figures from the media industries are interviewed about their careers in front of an audience and most recently included actor David Morrissey (The Walking Dead) and director Neil Marshall (Game of Thrones).

Adam is currently planning the launch of a university-based podcast show with senior lecturer, Thomas H. Green, which will focus on various aspects of popular (and not so popular) culture. He has written two books for Routledge, which focus on the body and its relation to various media: Critical Readings in Bodybuilding (2010) and The Body: The Basics (2014 – both co-edited with Dr Niall Richardson). Adam is currently writing a book with Dr Adrian Smith on cult horror director, Norman J. Warren. He has given numerous papers at conferences, most notably in New Orleans and Las Vegas and, back in England, for Cine Excess in London. He is currently an external examiner for the University of West London.

Adam’s other interests include electronic music, gaming, fandom, and film-philosophy.
