Alan Stewart

Lecturer in Games Design & Development

After obtaining an MA in Games Theory and Design, Alan has worked in design roles for numerous studios across the UK.

His most recent position has involved designing virtual reality experiences: a challenge he’s found fascinating due to the medium’s unique affordances when compared with mainstream games. That one of his projects is a current finalist in this year’s Fourth International VR Awards is a point of pride for him.

Alan has a particular passion for game-based learning and believes the medium to have a unique ability to change behaviours, thanks to the feelings of agency, engagement and connectedness that games are so adept at evoking.

Before working in the games industry, Alan was a teacher for many years and he looks forward to returning to the classroom once again where he hopes to inspire the next generation of game developers.
