The Course
Our innovative two-year Level 5 Foundation Degree programme is offered in partnership with Chichester College. It is built on Chichester College’s reputation for delivering high-quality Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) dance teacher training and the dance department at the University of Chichester’s long-standing reputation for its breadth of study.
This Foundation Degree is designed to truly prepare you for a successful and rewarding career in the dance sector either as a performer, choreographer or community dance practitioner or a dance teacher within the independent sector.
Drawing on the expertise of a highly qualified teaching team, you will be taught in a nurturing environment enabling you to broaden your dance knowledge, develop your practical skills in technique, performance and choreography and achieve an Undergraduate Level 5 Diploma and the internationally recognised ISTD Diploma in Dance Education.

Teaching
As a Chichester College student, you will have access to all their services, which includes study support, the Students’ Union, nurseries and our library’s online resources.

- Delivery at both the Chichester College campus and the University of Chichester’s Bishop Otter campus, where you will work alongside the BA (Hons) Dance; Dance Performance; Dance Education and Teaching; Dance, Aerial and Physical Theatre; and BSc (Hons) Dance Science students

You will be taught by experienced, professional and practising dance specialists who will share their expertise with you to nurture your talent and extend your creativity.
You will experience a variety of dance techniques including ISTD Intermediate and Advanced Level Imperial Classical Ballet, Modern Theatre and Tap and a range of exciting contemporary dance classes.
Assessment
All students will be internally assessed through a combination of course work and practical work. ISTD Dance Practice and Teaching Practice are assessed by ISTD examiners/moderators.

Successful completion of this course will enable you to apply for full membership of the ISTD and embark on a career as a fully qualified dance teacher in the independent sector.
You may choose to continue your higher education studies by progressing onto the third year of one of the University of Chichester’s BA (Hons) Dance programmes, which will afford you the opportunity to move on to postgraduate studies such as PGCE or Masters degree.

- Dance movement psychotherapist (with postgraduate study)

Entry Requirements
Typical offers (individual offers may vary):
You will need to be aged 18 and over, studied dance to intermediate level and wish to work in the performing arts industry as a dancer, choreographer or community dance practitioner and/or a dance teacher within the independent sector.
You will need:
- ISTD Intermediate in the genres to be studied for DDE (or recognised equivalency including professional practice)
- A combination of GCE A levels, or BTEC Level 3 Diploma/ Extended Diplomas (or equivalent qualifications) totalling 104-120 UCAS tariff points
- GCSE Mathematics and English Language are preferred at grade 4 or above.
