Having entered higher education as a mature student, gaining a BA in Film & Video and an MA in Screenwriting, Michael joined the University in 2006 after working as a freelance writer/producer/director for a number of years. Primarily teaching Screenwriting on the Media Production BA he has broadcast credits as a producer/director on short form factual content, as screenwriter for BBC Drama and as producer of internationally successful short films.
Michael’s main areas of research are focused on the role of screenwriters as producers in drama production, oral history as drama/docudrama, character research through the use of monologues, Irish cinema, and Hollywood ‘mavericks’ of the 1960’s and 70’s. He is an active practitioner with a range of ongoing applied research projects including feature length screenplays, oral history projects and short films in development.
