Our Sport Performance and Rehabilitation Unit (SPRU) offers expert services and consultancy to everyone from international athletes through to recreational sportsmen and women.

We have a range of state-of-the-art facilities which include designated physiotherapy clinics, biomechanics and physiology laboratories, a video analysis suite, altitude and temperature chambers.

We also host a range of indoor and outdoor sports facilities which enable us to deliver cutting edge services and treatments tailored to meet your needs.

Introducing who we are and what we do

The Sport Performance and Rehabilitation Unit (SPRU) provides bespoke support to help maximise your performance, mental preparation, fuel your performance and your health and wellbeing.

We also operate a sports injuries clinic, and consultancy services and training courses to support sports coaches and managers.

SPRU comprises a team of over 20 consultants – many of whom are Chartered Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (CASES) accredited, British Psychological Society (BPS) chartered, Health and Care Professional Council (HCPC) registered or hold other specialist qualifications – and are experienced at working with athletes in a range of sports from grass roots to Olympic level.

The SPRU clinic houses an experienced team of Physiotherapists and Sports Therapists who have an established record of working with athletes of all levels, ranging from international athletes through to recreational sportsmen and women.

Your privacy is very important to us. With your consent we will collect, process, store and share your personal data safely and securely.

During your initial consultation we will collect the following personal data to enable us to treat you:

Your name, date of birth, address and contact details, so that we can confirm your identity and keep in touch with appointment information.

Details about your GP so that, with your explicit consent, we can contact your GP and share personal information about you, should a further referral or discharge report be required. In exceptional circumstances this may include us contacting your GP if you become unwell during an appointment and you need urgent medical attention.

If a 3rd party is funding part or all of your treatment we will ask for the details and seek your explicit consent to share any information about your health or treatment that they require to enable them to process the funding.

We will share basic details such as your name and address with our Finance department, who will hold your information for the duration of your treatment with us for the purposes of generating invoices and receipts as and when required.

We will ask for your source of introduction to give us a better understanding of how our patients hear about us.

During your consultation we will ask for your medical history, which will be used to help determine how best to assess and treat you. This information will not be shared with other parties without your explicit consent to do so.  Medical information is obtained, recorded and stored in accordance with the practitioner’s regulatory body and the Information Commissioner’s office (ICO). If you would like more information about the regulatory body relevant to the practitioner you are seeing then please ask them.

We will maintain a record of your appointment dates, including the amount and type of payments made. We do not store card data or information regarding your banking details as this is managed directly with the bank through the card machine we use.

Your personal data is collected at your initial consultation and is then transferred to our electronic database, which is encrypted and password protected.  Any paper notes are then securely destroyed to protect your privacy.

We may use your contact details to contact you regarding a change in appointment, check in with you regarding your condition/progress, and to inform you of any changes in circumstances within the clinic that may affect your appointment. Please let us know if any of these details change.

If you give us permission to contact you for marketing purposes, we may, from time to time, get in touch to keep you updated on services, products or events we feel may be of benefit to you. You can change your preferences and opt out of this service at any time by emailing spru@chi.ac.uk.

Your personal data will not be transferred to a country outside of the UK without your explicit consent.

You are always in control of your data and have the right request that we withdraw or amend all or part of your data from our database. If you think some of the information we have stored about you is incorrect, please contact us so that we can update this for you. For legal reasons, we may need to keep some of your information on file, however, this will be destroyed/erased as soon as these no longer apply.

We will retain your medical records for 8 years after discharge, or your last attendance with us. Records for anyone under 16 years of age at the time of treatment are kept until the individual’s 25th birthday, when we will securely destroy your documents and delete your personal data from our database, unless you have asked us to retain your contact information for marketing purposes.

Cancellation policy

With any of our services we operate a cancellation policy and require at least 24 hours notice if you are unable to attend or wish to change your appointment. If this notice is not given, then you will still be charged for the full cost of the session.
