Recruit our students

We work to equip our students with the specialist, professional and personal skills they need in employment.

Students in Arundel

We can help you find the right person for your business needs, from student work placements to graduate internships, or filling full-time, part-time and seasonal vacancies.

The Careers and Employability team provides advice and guidance to students as they look for employment opportunities, contacts in the business world and ways to develop further. We do this by building relationships with local, national and international organisations like yourselves, and learning about your requirements and the aptitudes you are looking for.

We can help you find the right person, from student work placements to graduate roles, internships, full-time, part-time and seasonal vacancies. Or perhaps you have a short-term project to fulfil. We have an online jobs board where you can advertise your roles for free to our students. You can add as many jobs as you like. Find out more below.

Types of employment and support

By employing our students or graduates in an appropriate short-term or permanent role, your business will gain:

  • An opportunity to develop closer links with the University.
  • Increased short-term resources for a specific project or busy period.
  • Motivated students with specialist knowledge and forward-looking ideas.
  • A means of identifying potential employees for future employment.
  • A a fresh perspective on a project or challenge.

Many students are actively looking for part-time or seasonal work, whether it’s related to their course or not. They need to work around their studies but are usually free at weekends, evenings and holidays.

Some of our students are looking for volunteering opportunities. Working closely with the community is one of our core values at the University of Chichester. If you are a registered non-profit organisation, contact us and promote your vacancies.

These are normally fixed-term paid positions for graduates or undergraduates. They can last from one to twelve months and incorporate specific projects, training, etc. Often our students are looking for summer internships of three months.

Work Placements

Many of our courses include a work placement module as an option. These are work-based learning opportunities relevant to the student’s degree.

Short Work Placements

From 25 hours to a maximum of 12 weeks, these are short work placements that generally take place during the semesters. They give students the perfect opportunity to put into practice their knowledge and to learn more about the industries they are interested in. At the same time, work placements give invaluable opportunities for employers to work with students, and play a vital role in shaping the future professionals of tomorrow. The Careers & Employability Team work closely with employers who would like to support our students by offering them suitable work placements. As part of our due diligence, for every work placement, we ask the employer and the student/s to fill in the following documents:

  • Learning Agreement. It is an agreement signed by the University, the student and employer, where we identify the general terms for the work placement alongside the learning objectives required for the student to achieve and from the employer to support.
  • Employer Health & Safety and Student Risk Assessment. These are two documents where we assess the level of risk of the work placement, and we make sure that our students are in a safe environment.

Year in Industry

Some courses have the option of doing a Year in Industry (often referred to as a sandwich year). At the end of their second year, a student can choose to do this type of placement which would start any time from late May to early September, and on completion of the 12 months, they would return to the University to complete their last year. They would apply for a particular role within the company and would be entitled to a standard contract of employment and to the same company benefits as regular employees.

Graduates have studied at a high level and developed a range of skills, aptitudes and specialist knowledge whilst at university which they can apply to the world of work. Many organisations will benefit greatly from recruiting talented graduates with motivation and fresh ideas. You could employ graduates in a graduate job, which is an early career role for them to gain experience in industry, or as part of a graduate scheme which usually involves time in different departments to give graduates an extensive overview of the company.

Please note that this service is only for third parties.

The University of Chichester contracts with Qualification Check, and online verification service for employers and agencies to verify the qualifications of students and alumni of the University.

The online verification service allows 3rd party enquirers to input data provided by individuals, e.g. prospective employees or students. In certain circumstances i.e. where the information provided by the third party cannot be verified, the query will be referred to the University of Chichester’s Academic Registry for manual processing.

The online verification service allows enquirers to input data provided by applicants (name, date of birth, institution, year of graduation, qualification etc.). In real time the service checks the information given against an encrypted dataset from the institution’s student records and verifies it if it is matched.  Enquirers will be charged a small fee per enquiry.

How to register

To make an enquiry you need to register with Qualification Check.  Select University of Chichester from the list of UK higher education institutions and choose the option to ‘verify a degree award’. There is a small charge per enquiry. If you require further assistance, please email: enquiries@qualificationcheck.com

Making an enquiry

You’ll need the individual’s name, date of birth, course and qualification.  For graduates you’ll also need their year of graduation and degree result. We recommend that you ask to see the degree certificate if there is one and use that as the basis of your verification enquiry, or ask individuals to give you their data as they believe it’s recorded in the student records system.  That way you have a better chance of getting an automatic verification.  If you don’t get an automatic verification, the enquiry will go to the Assessment team at University of Chichester for manual verification, with a five working-day turnaround time.

Management information

All your enquiries are stored in the system and can be exported as an MS Excel or CSV file. You can sort your enquiries according to status:

  • Automatically verified
  • Pending – this means we couldn’t automatically verify your enquiry and you’re waiting for a response from the University
  • Not verified – where the University has responded in the negative
