Lecturer Practitioner in Nursing

Louise West

About

As a Lecturer Practitioner I work half of my week in a clinical role as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner and the other half of my week as a Lecturer at the school of Nursing and Allied Health.  I am delighted to be here in supporting our future generation of nurses.

I qualified as a nurse at Newcastle-Upon-Tyne School of Nursing and Northumbria University.  My first employment as a registered nurse was in the Coronary Care Unit.   I then undertook a psychology degree at the University of Worcester.

My vocation as a Nurse continued in a busy Accident and Emergency department and I have also enjoyed time working as a Research Nurse.  I have now worked within General Practice for over 20 years and am very enthusiastic about Primary Care Nursing and all the opportunities available for students to learn and future career developments.

Professional

I am a Registered Nurse and a recognised Non-Medical Prescriber with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

Research

My recent research I undertook for the MSc in Advanced Practice (Health) was looking at the provision of health education for newly diagnosed people with pre-diabetes.

This has led to the implementation of virtual group consultations within my surgery and linking with other surgeries to share our experiences to enable them to develop this service.

I am now undertaking my PgCERT in teaching and Learning at the University of Chichester.
