Overview

On this course you will study core engineering management theory alongside business specific content. The role of engineering manager provides project and technical leadership for engineering and manufacturing operations with a focus on achieving project objectives within the cost, schedule and quality targets.

Upon successful completion of the Engineer Degree Apprenticeship, you will be awarded a Postgraduate Diploma in Engineering Competence and a nationally recognised apprenticeship completion certificate.

Should you wish to complete the full MSc programme you will undertake an Individual Project module on achievement of your End Point Assessment.

Teaching and Assessment

How you will learn

You will study on campus for one day each week during term time. The apprenticeship is delivered over two semesters per year for two years. Modules are taught through interactive seminars, workshops and live projects. You are expected to apply and develop your learning in the workplace.

The End Point Assessment will be undertaken on successful completion of the degree element of the apprenticeship programme. At this point, learners can choose to complete an optional ‘top up’ to work towards an MSc in Engineering Management.

You will learn in our state-of-the-art Tech Park on the Bognor Regis campus.

The Tech Park is the UK’s first purpose-built facility for delivering engineering through the problem-based learning, CDIO approach.

With teaching labs containing brand new equipment and apparatus, you will enjoy facilities including:

  • A large, double height space for delivering unique, exciting and rewarding design and build experiences
  • Practical, project-orientated engineering workshop and teaching facilities
  • Dedicated electronics and mechanics laboratories
  • Material preparation lab for etching and polishing samples
  • Mechanical testing lab to test tensile and impact strength
  • Fabrication laboratory
  • Dynamic and ThermoFluid’s lab
  • Facilities to teach Computer Aided Design
  • Renewable labs (e.g. Solar PV modules and wind turbine modules)
  • Control and instrumentation lab
  • Power electronics and automation lab
  • Electrical machines lab
  • Digital electronics lab
  • Communication and circuit kits
  • Engineering workshop and Machining Centre (e.g. CNC machines, drills, laser cutter, digital lathe, and specialist 3D printers).

Course Costs

Your tuition fees will be paid by your employer and/or the Government so you will graduate without tuition fee debt.

As an employee, you will receive your salary from your employer and be eligible for employee benefits while you study. You will not be eligible for a student loan.

Entry Requirements

Prospective apprentices are recruited directly by employers or are already employed by the company and will hold one or more of the following:

  • An undergraduate degree or equivalent.
  • A graduate level professional qualification.
  • Substantial experience in a managerial or leadership role.

How do I apply?

You need to apply directly to an employer for a degree apprenticeship, unlike traditional degree programmes.

You will be employed in a full time or part time role while studying in partnership with the University of Chichester.
