Assessment Only Route

Chichester has a long and distinguished history in teacher training at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, and is renowned for academic excellence and student satisfaction. The Institute of Education is recognised nationally as a centre of excellence for teacher education and research development.

The work that goes on across the school partnership at both secondary and primary level was graded as 'Outstanding' by Ofsted in June 2010.

Such a positive outcome would not have been achieved without the vital contribution that school-based colleagues (Mentors, Professional Tutors, Class Teachers, Headteachers) make on a regular basis to the partnership.

The commitment we share in shaping, educating and training the next generation of teachers forms the basis for continued high quality ITT provision at Chichester.

The partnership covers a large geographical area including Dorset, Hampshire / IOW, West Sussex and the Surrey/London borders.

Since September 2012, we have offered the Assessment Only route to suitably qualified and experienced candidates the opportunity to gain Qualified Teacher Status without the need for extensive training.

Gaining QTS will enable you to teach in any school in the country whether state maintained, independent or an academy.

For Assessment Only, the assessment phase would normally be over a period of 10-12 weeks after successful completion of the Initial Assessment Visit by a university assessor. There is no expectation of training within this route; however, the school is expected to give high levels of professional guidance and support.
