University opens its doors to employers to discuss apprenticeships

A CALL to employers and business leaders from across the south coast has been made by the University of Chichester to find out about the launch of a new apprenticeship initiative.

Experts from the institution are hosting an open event on Wednesday 28 September to discuss degree apprenticeships - a new initiative launched by the government to enable students to combine work and study.

The morning session, which starts at 8am, will be held at the University Business School’s Dome Enterprise Centre, located at its Bognor Regis campus, PO21 1HR.

At the University, apprentices work for four days each week and then study for their degrees on one day, said its Head of Employer Engagement Sandra Coley.

She added: “The aim is to ensure students graduate with the experience that employers need - now and in the future - by providing them with a balance of academic learning and on-the-job practical training.

“This can give employers the opportunity to develop the talent they need to fulfil their business ambitions.

“Our new degree apprenticeship will give them the added ability to shape their training to meet their individual professional needs as they spend time ensuring that they recruit the right person for their team.”

Get your career going

A brief presentation describing the degree apprenticeship programme will be held alongside a short talk from Simon Pringle, of Red River Software in Horsham, who will provide the employer perspective.
